don't use attachments they are often out of date and clog-up email
make a policy to use cloud stored, multi-user and concurrently accessible documents as the standard (GApps Docs, links etc) and you wont run out of space.
In GDOCS if you use Googles Document format, you space is unlimited, if you use Microsoft, PDF and other file formats you get a limitation on the capacity currently 1gb a user.
Hence encourages use Google Apps file formats.
If you need mass shared file access services such as Dropbox built on Amazon Web Services are a possibility and other vendors
At this point Google doesn't allow it for Google Apps. Purchasing additional storage will only increase storage for services other than Google Apps mail.
"To keep our systems healthy and your account safe, each Google Apps account has a limited amount of storage. The limit does not inhibit normal email use but is designed to help identify any misuse of Gmail." Read more here: http://support.google.com/a/bin/...
An example of misuse is using gmail as a file storage system.
Email has evolved into an inefficient file storage system over several years. Attachments are the problem. Attaching a document and sending it to someone creates At least 4 copies of it in inboxes, outboxes, and on computers or devices.
Storing files in an email account makes them inaccessible and harder to find and distribute when needeed. "Send me all the reports for last year" becomes a longer task if they are all stored as attachments in email. And what if you aren't available? On vacation or something? Just a bad way to store data for too many reasons.
Google has another vision for documents which involve 1 copy, online, where multiple people can access it at the same time, with editing and revision history. See more here:
With the cloud what it is today, even Microsoft, a software company, is moving it's office suite online for the benefits it brings. They are hard at work on it for a good reason.
So get rid of attachments. Link to your documents online instead. 25 GB will be plenty.
